Sports for Champion Event: Wednesday 18th June This summer our school will be hosting a Sports for Champion event. We will be having an athlete visit the school on Wednesday 18th June. We have just been informed that the…
We will be starting clubs for this term from Monday 15th April. Class teachers will manage the allocation of club places internally, and will keep a register of all school-run clubs so that everyone gets a fair turn. If a…
Mark Allen, UK snooker champion 2022 and this year’s Champion of Champions winner, came to visit our school just before the start of this year’s UK snooker championships in York. A selected group of pupils from Key Stage 2 took part in a question and answer session before playing a bit of snooker themselves. We were joined on the day by Look North and a BBC production team.
The BBC also returned a few days later to do another snooker piece with some KS2 pupils which was aired during the semi final of this year’s championships.
All pupils involved in both snooker events were funny, polite and engaging. They were a really credit to our school. Well done Fishergaters!
…Star Wars Charity Marathon Day is back!
On May 4th all pupils will be asked to come into school dressed in PE clothes (or sportswear) and trainers… ready to run. This year we will be raising money for the Macmillan cancer charity and we ask that all donations are made via this JustGiving link:
Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
Any donation you can give is much appreciated. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and having a charity like Macmillan there to support those people and their families is priceless. Anything we raise through this marathon day will support their work.
Throughout the day classes will go out onto the school field to run a mile with Mrs Clarke. This year we would like to invite parents, carers, family members and friends to come along and support their child’s class or even to run with them! Please come round to the school field (at the back of school) when your child’s class is running.

Darth Vader needs YOU to run a mile with Mrs Clarke on our Star Wars Marathon Day!
CLASS FIELD TIMES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
BREAK
Many thanks for all your support…let’s run together and raise as much money as we can!
(And an extra thank you to all the school councillors who put together the 360 medals needed for the day)
Good luck to Mrs Clarke (who will be running all day) and May the Fourth be With You everyone 🙂
A huge thank you for all your support with this year’s Star Wars Marathon Day. All runners were amazing and ran their miles with Mrs Clarke throughout the day. Well done to Mrs Clarke for running all those miles and to Caz for joining her (at a social distance of course!) to run some miles as well.
Thank you for all your donations. The total raised for Mental Health UK stands at £1160! AMAZING!
Much appreciated, your support is….to next year here is!

We will be running our Star Wars marathon on May 4th!
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do the usual taking 26 groups of children to run along the river. Instead the children will be running a mile around the field – I think it is 11 times around! They will all get a medal for their efforts and I am hoping that there will still be the marathon day buzz around school. This year we are raising money for Mental Health UK. More details will be sent closer to the time.
13 miles done, and still smiling!

The most important reason for her Star Wars run was to see as many of the lovely children from Early Years as possible!
However, she is also fundraising. Foodbanks in the UK are under more pressure than ever in the current situation; York alone has seen a 400% increase in use since lockdown began.
If you would like to, you can donate to Mrs Wilson’s JustGiving page in aid of the Trussell Trust.
On May 4th we usually run our Star Wars marathon at Fishergate Primary School with all the children and staff involved – and often many parents and governors! We have had to postpone this year’s event, but Mrs Wilson is planning to run past as many Early Years children’s homes as possible to give them a (socially distanced!) wave.
