A reminder that the deadline for “on time” applications for a full-time place in the Early Years unit is approaching – parents and carers should apply by 15th January.  Late applications can be made after this date, though these may be looked at after other applications.

Your child will usually start primary or infant school in the September of the school year they turn 5 – so if your child’s 5th birthday is between 1/9/17 and 31/8/18 you can apply for a place in reception for September 2017.  For more details, why not have a look at our page all about admission arrangements?

If you have an enquiry about a part-time place for your child in the Early Years unit, please contact Mrs Deighton in the school office.

The We Are Family Challenge!

Last half-term, we challenged the children to spend fifteen minutes a day with a parent or carer, engaged in an activity together that does not involve a screen. The children themselves suggested all kinds of interesting activities, and have told us how much they enjoy this time with you.

This half-term, we are hoping you will participate in our next challenge: to read a bedtime story every night. Many families already have a firm routine for sharing a bedtime story – it is a special time together at the end of the day. It also is an effective way for children to wind down before sleep, whereas screen time just before bed makes it harder for children to settle. Don’t let your children tell you that they are too old for a bedtime story either. It is a routine worth holding onto for as long as possible!

Look out for the display in the lower hall of recommended bedtime stories; it might give you ideas of books your child will enjoy too.

On Friday 16th December we’re inviting all pupils to take part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

The whole school will be taking part. You won’t need to splash out on a snazzy new sweater to join the fun-simply decorate an old woolly jumper or just come in something festive e.g. tinsel, a Christmas hat or come dressed up as Father Christmas- it’s up to you.

We’re asking pupils to make a £1 donation, or whatever they can give, to help save children’s lives across the world.

If you would like more information about Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, please see www.christmasjumperday.org

Thank you for your support.

Merry Christmas.
