Good fine motor skills are essential in the development of handwriting, feeding and dressing. Many children who have difficulties with fine motor skills find the following things challenging:

  • Managing fastenings on clothes
  • Inappropriate pencil grasp and pencil work
  • Using a knife and fork together
  • Opening and closing containers
  • Turning pages of a book
  • Picking up and placing small objects
  • Using craft materials e.g. glue, paper, glitter, etc.
  • Using classroom tools, e.g. Scissors, rulers, rubbers, etc.
  • Accessing messy play, sand, glue, paint, etc.
