History@Fishergate

At Fishergate we teach history so that all children have a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We place a strong emphasis on chronological understanding of key time periods and events, and the changes and nature of people’s lives through those times. Children begin to understand the importance of historical enquiry and the value of evidence to support historical interpretations.

To support children in their learning we always strive to engage children through interactive approaches such as drama, handling objects and artefacts, recreating through modelling and visualisation such as video news reports.

As a historical city we treat our environment as a special classroom, with many opportunities to visit sites of historical importance and museums to support our learning through regular visits and workshop sessions. Children are encouraged to develop empirical skills with the breadth of knowledge and a range of ways to express their understanding.
