Geography@Fishergate

At Fishergate we teach geography so that children have an understanding of their locality and the wider world around them. Map work and locational knowledge are a major focus and the backgrounds of the children are closely linked to the geography we do.

Children are encouraged to develop their enquiry skills and we try to carry out as much investigative and hands on work as we can. We feel like the best way to engage the children in their learning is to use their interests and knowledge as a basis for our geography work.

Global fortnight at the beginning of the school year is a fantastic way to introduce children to the wider world and gives us a chance to study different countries in depth. The children are always really excited to be given the opportunity to get involved in the culture of different parts of the world.

Our ultimate aim at Fishergate is to ensure that the learning the children undertake is enjoyable and relevant.
